Review Of Saratoga Race Course

The Saratoga Race Course is located in New York, the home of several prestigious race courses.  Saratoga Race Course is a 350 acre racetrack located in Saratoga Springs New York.  Saratoga Race Course is the oldest racetrack in the United States.  Saratoga Race Course has become one of the penultimate choices for betting on thoroughbred horse racing in the United States.  Since 1863, horse races have been run on the Saratoga Race Course, with very few interruptions in between.  Due to the popularity of the Saratoga Race Course, only such events as deadly heatwaves and World War II have managed to close down the track, thus shifting responsibility to Belmont park.  Generally, Saratoga Race Course provides horse races throughout the summer and ending on Labor Day every year.

Since 1864, a year after the opening of the track, the Saratoga Race Course has been home to the well known Travers Stakes.  The Travers Stakes is the longest running stake in the U.S.  Over the years, the Saratoga Meet has increased in duration because of its popularity, from the original four days in which the races took place to now running for six weeks.  The Whitney Handicap, the Alabama Stakes, and the Woodward Stakes are other important Grade 1 races that take place at the Saratoga Race Course, leaving many opportunities for gambling at the Saratoga Race Course throughout the year.  In addition to the Grade 1 races, there are Grade 2, Grade 3, ungraded, and even Steeplechase races that take place at the Saratoga Race Course.  The Saratoga Breeders’ Cup Handicap was, until it was discontinued in 2005, a thoroughbred race for horses three-years-old and up run at Saratoga Race Course. A Grade II event, it was set in 1995 at one and one quarter miles on the dirt and offered a purse of $250,000.

Three different tracks are found at the Saratoga Race Course, each with different attributes. Their main track is a dirt track, which runs 1 1/8th of a mile, an outer turf track that is barely longer than a mile, and an inner turf track that is roughly 7/8ths of a mile. The Inner turf course is the usual course on which the steeplechases take place, though either of the turf courses will host the steeplechases.  In addition, there will be nine steeplechase races starting the summer of 2011.  Three more than 2010.  These races will lead off every thursday card.  In addition, a second steeplechase race will be added in weeks two, four and six.

The Saratoga Race Course primarily operates through parimuteuel wagering, though many online racebooks have chosen to post fixed odds gambling rather than parimutuel pools. One advantage you will find with parimutuel gambling on the Saratoga Race Course is that of the increased prize pools found when many players are wagering.
